RATTAN

DESCRIPTION PROJECT

Rattan is vine that grows in the tropical rainforests of Indonesia. The rattan plant grows about 6 meters per year and can grow up to 100 meters long. There are over 600 rattan species. Of these, about 10 species are used in the furniture and home decoration branch. Workers harvest this plant according to our sustainable conditions. Our weavers then manifacture the beautiful and sustainable baskets which are sold for a reasonable price.

WHY IS THIS A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT?

Unfortunately, a lot of Rattan is harvested without any respect for people and enviroment. Protection of the tropical rainforest is of major importance. According to the official figures of the Indonesian goverment, around 24 million hectares of rainforest in Indonesia was destroyed between 1990 and 2015. By harvesting our rattan sustainably and responsibly, we prevent the destruction of a small piece of tropical rainforest. We hope to set an example for others.

PROFIT FOR THE COMMUNITY

We garantuee workers in the tropical rainforest year-round work and thus a regular income. The staff in our rattan factory is provided with 2 warm meals a day. In addition, we try to increase the involvement of our staff by regulary informing them and seriously listening to their wishes and ideas.

CERTIFICATION

Early 2017, the certification, according to international standards, of our production process from the harvest of the rattan in the tropical rainforest until its delivery to customers in Europe was commissioned. We expect to receive the certificate in the course of 2019.
